Chubu Centrair Airport arrival guide

Find Access Plaza, understand Meitetsu's train tickets, and organize your arrival before traveling to Nagoya.

1. Arrival terminal

After immigration, baggage collection and customs at Chubu Centrair International Airport (中部国際空港), match your terminal and floor to any pickup booking. Many services described here are around Access Plaza (アクセスプラザ), the airport's transport connection area, rather than beside every arrivals exit.

The information center is on Access Plaza, 2F. It moved from Terminal 1's 3F departures lobby in August 2026, so older directions may send you to the wrong floor. There are also information points in Terminal 1's 2F arrivals lobby and Terminal 2's 1F arrivals lobby; assistance may be in person, by monitor or by telephone.

Japanese floor labels count 1F as ground level and 2F as the floor above it. Show your pickup confirmation or hotel address to staff if you need help locating a service; you do not need to be able to pronounce every Japanese name.

2. Internet & SIM cards

The free airport network is Airport_FreeWiFi_NGO in supported areas. Use it to retrieve reservations or start setup; it does not replace mobile internet after leaving the airport.

Global WiFi at Access Plaza, 2F, offers physical Japan SIMs, eSIMs and rental Wi-Fi. Listed counter hours are 06:30–22:00. Specify use in Japan, because a counter may also handle products for travel abroad.

A physical SIM replaces or occupies a SIM slot; an eSIM is downloaded to a compatible phone. Check your device and SIM-lock status before buying either. Rental Wi-Fi is a separate portable device, so check availability, charging and return arrangements. Test your chosen connection with airport Wi-Fi turned off before heading to the train.

3. Cash & currency exchange

Seven Bank (セブン銀行) ATMs are listed on Terminal 1, 2F arrivals, and Terminal 2, 2F departures. Terminal 2 arrivals are on 1F, so its ATM requires a floor change. Check your overseas-issued card's eligibility and any fees.

Access Plaza has Travelex currency exchange and SMART EXCHANGE machines for converting supported foreign banknotes into yen. These exchange cash; they do not withdraw money from your bank account. Check accepted currencies, the rate and opening status before choosing.

4. Luggage storage & delivery

Temporary storage (手荷物一時預かり) holds your luggage for collection later. Yamato Transport (ヤマト運輸) provides storage at the Terminal 1, 2F arrivals delivery counter. Ask about the collection deadline, or about the destination and delivery date if you want your suitcase sent to a hotel instead.

Terminal 2's 1F arrivals storage counter is listed as temporarily closed; do not build your arrival plan around it. Airport coin lockers (コインロッカー) are another storage option, subject to size, availability and access hours.

If you will not return to the airport soon, asking your hotel about storage before check-in may be more practical. For delivery, show the hotel's Japanese address and confirm it can receive the bag on the stated date. Keep what you need that night with you.

5. Getting to your hotel

Meitetsu (名鉄) is the railway operator serving the airport. Its μ-SKY (ミュースカイ) train consists entirely of reserved-seat special cars. You need the basic fare plus a μticket (ミューチケット), the additional ticket for a specified seat and train.

The distinction is between a fare ticket (乗車券) for the journey and a special-car ticket (特別車両券) for the reserved accommodation. Buying only the seat supplement does not pay the basic fare.

  • μ-SKY: every carriage is a special car (特別車); the supplement is required.
  • A limited express with both special and ordinary cars: special cars require the supplement, while ordinary cars (一般車) can be used with the basic fare alone.
  • A service with only ordinary cars: follow that service's fare conditions; do not assume the μ-SKY arrangement applies to every train.

Check the actual departure and carriage before boarding. If you buy a seat supplement online, keep its confirmation available and check how you will pay the basic fare. Plan the transfer and walk to your hotel as well as the airport-to-Nagoya leg.

6. Showers & rest

TUBE Sq is a capsule hotel on Terminal 1, 1F. A capsule is a compact sleeping space, rather than a conventional hotel room. Check the time-based capsule plans if you want to lie down.

The shower-only plan is separate: it is handled at reception on the day and does not include a capsule. Confirm the available session and price before setting aside time for a rest. Neither option changes the departure time on a reserved train ticket.

7. Before you leave

  • Confirm whether your chosen carriage needs a μticket as well as the basic fare.
  • Keep the train number, departure time and seat confirmation available.
  • Complete any Global WiFi pickup and test your connection before leaving Access Plaza.
  • Check the collection plan for stored bags and allow time for your transfer in Nagoya.
  • Save the hotel's Japanese address to show staff if the final part of your route is unclear.
