Fukuoka Airport arrival guide

Finish your international-terminal errands before transferring to the subway for Hakata or Tenjin.

1. Arrival terminal

After immigration, baggage collection and customs at Fukuoka Airport (福岡空港), you enter the international terminal's public arrivals area. The airport subway station is on the domestic side, not directly below international arrivals.

For the subway, follow the free terminal shuttle to the domestic terminal, then the signs for the subway (地下鉄). The international-to-domestic bus leaves from 1F. Allow time for walking, waiting and the bus ride before reaching the station.

On terminal signs, international flights (国際線) and domestic flights (国内線) distinguish the two areas. 1F means ground level. If you need help with a reservation or location before transferring, use the tourist information service in the international arrivals area.

2. Internet & SIM cards

The free networks AirportFreeWiFi-2.4G and AirportFreeWiFi-5.0G are available in supported terminal areas. Follow the connection instructions, then use the connection to open your booking or prepare a mobile-data plan.

  • Global WiFi: physical Japan SIMs are listed at the International Terminal, 1F counter before security. Check the available plan and your phone's compatibility.
  • Sakura Mobile: reserved Japan Wi-Fi devices and SIMs can be collected at its International Terminal, 1F arrivals counter. Listed hours are 07:00–21:00. Have your passport and confirmation ready.
  • Online eSIM: JAL ABC offers a Japan eSIM for compatible phones. This is a downloadable product, not a Fukuoka counter pickup or a claim of local counter sales.

Check SIM-lock status before buying a SIM or eSIM. Rental Wi-Fi requires carrying a separate device and arranging its return. Once setup is complete, turn off airport Wi-Fi briefly and check that your hotel map opens.

3. Cash & currency exchange

Travelex is in the International Terminal's 1F arrivals public area. It exchanges supported foreign banknotes; check the rate, accepted currencies and current opening status.

Seven Bank (セブン銀行) also lists ATMs at Fukuoka Airport for eligible overseas-issued cards. These withdraw from your account, rather than exchange banknotes. Check the location, hours, fees and card conditions before relying on a machine.

4. Luggage storage & delivery

Yamato Transport (ヤマト運輸) has a delivery and storage counter in the International Terminal, 1F, before security. Delivery (宅配) sends your bag to an address; temporary storage (手荷物一時預かり) leaves it at the airport for later collection. Confirm which service you are buying.

International-terminal coin lockers (コインロッカー) are listed on 1F and 3F. You cannot put in or retrieve luggage while the terminal is closed. Record the floor and collection deadline, and consider whether you will return to this side of the airport.

If sending a bag, show the hotel's Japanese address and confirm both the delivery date and the hotel's ability to receive it. If going straight to the hotel, ask about storage before check-in and compare that with carrying the bag through the bus-and-subway transfer.

5. Getting to your hotel

Fukuoka City Subway's Airport Line (空港線) connects Fukuoka Airport Station with Hakata (博多) and Tenjin (天神). These are different parts of the city. Use the nearest station shown by your hotel and check the final walking route before choosing where to get off.

A headline train journey time does not include the transfer from international arrivals to the domestic terminal. Include that transfer and any onward connection when estimating your hotel arrival time.

If you have a bus or hotel pickup booked, check whether it leaves from the international terminal before taking the shuttle to the subway. A move to the domestic side is necessary for this subway route, not a compulsory step for every arriving traveler.

6. Showers & rest

Lounge TIME / North (ラウンジTIME/ノース) is a paid public lounge on the domestic side, 1F, before security. It can be used regardless of whether you are flying. “Public lounge” here means a paid seating and rest facility outside the departure-only area, not an airline lounge that requires you to go through security.

TIME / North does not have showers. If your priority is a shower or a bed, check your hotel's early check-in or day-use options rather than transferring across the airport specifically for this lounge. This is a statement about TIME / North, not every facility at Fukuoka Airport.

7. Before you leave

  • Finish any SIM or Wi-Fi pickup, cash exchange and baggage-counter visit you need on this side.
  • Save the location and collection deadline for anything left in a locker.
  • Check whether your next step is the shuttle for the subway or a pickup at the international terminal.
  • Agree on a terminal and meeting point with anyone collecting you.
  • Keep the hotel address, passport and charger accessible during the transfer.
