Haneda Airport arrival guide

Match your terminal to your bookings, then choose the right rail entrance for your journey into Tokyo.

1. Arrival terminal

International arrivals at Haneda Airport (羽田空港) use Terminals 2 and 3. After immigration, baggage collection and customs, check which terminal you are in before following a pickup confirmation or directions to a service. An airport-wide listing does not mean the service is on your arrivals floor.

JAL ABC's SIM and rental Wi-Fi counter described here is in Terminal 3's 2F arrivals lobby. If you arrive at Terminal 2, check whether your booking requires a terminal transfer. The free terminal shuttle bus connects the terminals; allow time for the walk, wait and transfer before your onward train.

Floor labels are worth checking: 1F is ground level, 2F is one floor above it, and B1/B2 are basement levels. An information counter can help you match the terminal, floor and counter name in your reservation.

2. Internet & SIM cards

HANEDA-FREE-WIFI is available in supported areas of Terminals 1, 2 and 3. Connect and follow the browser instructions. Use it to retrieve bookings or set up mobile data, then check that your connection works after turning airport Wi-Fi off.

  • Physical SIM: JAL ABC sells Japan SIMs at Terminal 3, 2F. Check your phone's compatibility and SIM-lock status before purchase.
  • eSIM: JAL ABC offers a downloadable SIM at that counter or online for compatible phones. An online purchase does not require collection of a physical card, but setup still needs a connection.
  • Rental Wi-Fi: JAL ABC's Terminal 3 arrivals counter handles Japan Wi-Fi devices. Walk-in availability depends on stock. Its listed overnight closure is 01:00–04:00; check the pickup arrangements for a delayed or overnight arrival.

Save the hotel address and any pickup instructions offline. Airport Wi-Fi coverage is not a mobile-data plan for Tokyo.

3. Cash & currency exchange

Terminal 3's 2F arrivals lobby has Japan Airport Terminal currency exchange. It is listed as a 24-hour service with nighttime maintenance closures, so check current counter notices before relying on an overnight exchange.

Seven Bank (セブン銀行) ATMs are another option for withdrawing yen with an overseas-issued card. Card compatibility, transaction limits and hours vary. An ATM withdraws from an account; currency exchange converts foreign banknotes. If you arrive at Terminal 2, check that terminal's locations rather than treating the Terminal 3 directions as interchangeable.

4. Luggage storage & delivery

JAL ABC and Yamato Transport (ヤマト運輸) have delivery counters in Terminal 3's 2F arrivals lobby. Delivery (宅配) means the bag is transported to a destination such as your hotel. Confirm the address, whether the hotel accepts deliveries, and the expected arrival date. It may not arrive when you do.

Coin lockers (コインロッカー) hold a bag for later collection at the same location. Haneda lists lockers outside the gates in each terminal, including Terminal 3, 2F. Here, outside the gates means the public side of the restricted area, not outdoors. Check the size, storage period and access hours.

If your return flight leaves from another terminal or airport, do not leave a suitcase behind without a realistic collection plan. For a direct trip to the hotel, asking about storage before check-in may avoid an unnecessary airport stop.

5. Getting to your hotel

Haneda connects to two rail systems: the Keikyu Line (京急線) and Tokyo Monorail (東京モノレール). Match the route to your hotel's nearest station, including any transfer and final walk, before choosing a ticket gate.

At Terminal 3, Keikyu's gate toward central Tokyo and Yokohama is on 2F in the arrivals lobby. Its B2 gate is for the direction toward Terminals 1 and 2. Following a generic railway symbol downstairs can therefore put you at the wrong entrance for your destination.

Tokyo Monorail has Terminal 3 gates on 2F and 3F. In Terminals 1 and 2, access to both railway systems is on B1. The ticket gates (改札口) are the barriers into the paid station area; check the operator and direction before going through them.

If you have booked an airport bus or hotel pickup, use its terminal-specific boarding point. For a late arrival, check the last usable connection all the way to the hotel, not just the first train from Haneda.

6. Showers & rest

Haneda lists paid shower rooms (シャワールーム) on Terminal 2, 1F, in the domestic arrivals lobby, and on Terminal 3, 2F, in the arrivals lobby. Terminal 3 also has refresh rooms with reclining chairs. Terminal 2 international arrivals should check the route to the domestic arrivals area even though both are in the same terminal.

Reservations are not accepted for these facilities; check the queue, price and available time on arrival. A refresh room with a reclining chair is different from a hotel room for an overnight stay.

7. Before you leave

  • Match your completed pickup and any stored luggage to Terminal 2 or 3.
  • Check the rail operator, direction and gate floor before buying or using a ticket.
  • Keep your passport, medication and charger out of any bag you send ahead.
  • Save your hotel's Japanese address and notify it if delays affect your expected check-in time.
  • Tell anyone meeting you the terminal and meeting point, not just “Haneda.”
