Naha Airport arrival guide
Choose between Yui Rail and onward road transport, then arrange pickups and luggage around your first Okinawa hotel.
1. Arrival terminal
After immigration, baggage collection and customs at Naha Airport (那覇空港), you enter the public arrivals area. Service locations use both international (国際線) and domestic (国内線) area names. Match that area as well as the floor to your reservation.
NINJA WiFi's SIM pickup is on the international side, 1F; WiFiBOX is on the domestic side, 1F. They are different services at different locations. Tourist information is available in both 1F areas, including the international Visitor Service Center, if you need help finding a counter or onward route.
1F means ground level; 2F is one floor above. Before leaving for a bus or rental-car shuttle, check whether you still need to collect a reserved device on the other side of the building.
2. Internet & SIM cards
The free network Free_Wi-Fi_NAHA_Airport is available in supported terminal common areas. Use it to open reservations and meeting-point instructions. It does not provide mobile coverage across Okinawa.
- Physical SIM pickup: NINJA WiFi uses the J WiFi & Mobile × Global WiFi counter in the international 1F arrivals lobby. Listed hours are 07:30–21:00. Select Naha pickup when ordering and keep the confirmation ready.
- Rental Wi-Fi: WiFiBOX on domestic 1F is listed for 06:00–24:00. Book a plan with Japan as the country of use, then follow the QR-code collection instructions. Check stock and where to return the device.
- Online eSIM: JAL ABC offers a Japan eSIM for compatible phones. It is downloaded rather than collected as a physical card; this is not a claim that JAL ABC sells SIMs at a Naha counter.
Check phone compatibility and SIM-lock status before buying. Complete setup while you have a connection, then test mobile data with airport Wi-Fi switched off. Save important addresses offline too.
3. Cash & currency exchange
Seven Bank (セブン銀行) has an ATM on international 1F, with listed hours of 07:00–22:00. It offers yen withdrawals for supported overseas-issued cards, subject to transaction restrictions and fees.
Travelex is in the 1F arrivals lobby, with listed hours of 07:00–20:30. It exchanges supported foreign banknotes. Choose between exchanging cash and withdrawing from an account according to what you have, and check the displayed rate or fee before proceeding.
4. Luggage storage & delivery
Temporary storage (手荷物一時預かり) means collecting your bag from the airport later. Okinawa Yamato Transport (沖縄ヤマト運輸) has storage in locations including domestic 1F arrivals, and Sagawa Express (佐川急便) has a counter near the 1F arrivals lobby. Coin lockers (コインロッカー) are listed on 1F, 2F and 3F; record the exact floor and collection deadline.
Before U Go on 2F's Yuinichi Street (ゆいにちストリート) offers storage and same-day hotel delivery. Delivery (宅配) sends the bag elsewhere, rather than keeping it for airport collection. Confirm your hotel's eligibility, the cutoff and expected arrival before using it.
Show the hotel's Japanese address and check it can receive luggage. Do not assume the same coverage applies across Okinawa or to an onward stay on another island. If going directly to the hotel, asking about early luggage storage may avoid a return trip to the airport.
5. Getting to your hotel
Yui Rail (ゆいレール) is Okinawa's urban monorail. It serves Naha Airport Station (那覇空港駅) and stops including Asahibashi (旭橋), Kencho-mae (県庁前) and Makishi (牧志). For a hotel near one of these stops, compare the station-to-hotel walk with your luggage before choosing.
The monorail is not a railway network covering all of Okinawa. For accommodation away from its route, such as farther north, plan the onward bus, car or booked transfer separately. Check the hotel's location before treating “Okinawa” as a single destination.
A rental-car booking does not necessarily mean the vehicle is waiting outside arrivals. Read the operator's instructions for the meeting point, shuttle and office procedures. Check the day's timetable for Yui Rail or your bus and the time of any reserved pickup before shopping or resting.
6. Showers & rest
First Cabin Naha Airport (ファーストキャビン那覇空港) is an airport accommodation facility with reception on 2F. It offers compact sleeping cabins, with daytime cabin use and shower-only use as separate options. Cabins have curtain partitions rather than lockable room doors, and showers and toilets are shared facilities.
Both daytime options depend on same-day availability rather than advance reservations. Ask reception which is available and what is included; shower use does not automatically include a place to sleep. Leave time to reach your booked bus or rental-car shuttle afterward.
Coin-operated phone chargers are also listed near information counters on 1F arrivals, 2F departures and 3F check-in. Check the connector and price at the machine. Keep the pickup instructions and your hotel's address accessible if your phone battery is low.
7. Before you leave
- Complete the pickup on the correct international or domestic side.
- Know your Yui Rail stop or the exact meeting point for onward road transport.
- Confirm the hotel and delivery date before sending luggage away.
- Keep weather-appropriate clothing, essential medication and your passport with you.
- Save your hotel's Japanese name and address to show staff when you need directions.
