Umezono — Asakusa Main Shop (梅園 浅草本店)
History
The business began as a teahouse in 1854 at Baion-in, a subsidiary temple of Senso-ji. Its name, drawn from the temple, and its awa-zenzai reflect those origins.
Awa-zenzai (あわぜんざい) is the shop's warm grain-cake and sweet-bean-paste dessert. Anmitsu (あんみつ) is a cold dessert with agar jelly and sweet bean paste. You can also buy Japanese sweets to take away.
