Izutsu Yatsuhashi Honpo — Gion Main Shop (井筒八ッ橋本舗 祇園本店)

Kyoto / Gion-Shijo / KitazaJapanese sweets

History

The business began in Gion in 1805 under its founder, Sahee Tsuda. It has sold yatsuhashi associated with the musician Yatsuhashi Kengyo. The present Gion main shop is on Kitaza's ground floor and has different hours from the restaurants upstairs.

Yatsuhashi (井筒八ッ橋) is a baked sweet, while nama yatsuhashi (生八ッ橋) is its soft, unbaked counterpart. Yugiri (夕霧) is a filled soft yatsuhashi sweet sold here too.
