Surugaya Gion Shimosato (するがや祇園下里)
History
Founded at its present Gion location in 1818, carrying on the lineage of Sohonke Surugaya. Its history includes closures and reopenings. The founding date does not imply uninterrupted operation.
Hiyashi-ame (ひやしあめ) is a chilled sweet ginger drink; ame-yu (あめ湯) is served hot. The shop also sells Otsutsu (大つゝ) and Gion Mameheito (祇園豆平糖) candy to take away.
